Parents Welcome Coffee
Last Updated (Monday, 09 August 2010 10:53)
The PTO Board hosts a Welcome Back-to-School Coffee at the beginning of the school year for parents. For Fall 2010, this social activity is scheduled for Wednesday, September 1st in the K-8 Cafetorium. Our theme is "Not Your Mama's PTO!" Come at 8:15 am -- or if that is way too early for you, come at 9:15 am. It will be held at two different times to make it more convenient for more parents! This is a great opportunity to connect with other DCC parents and enjoy some morning treats. Start the school year off right !
Why do we have PTO Social events?
Last Updated (Monday, 05 January 2009 15:17)
Have you ever thought about why we plan social events for DCC students and their families? I am sure you have thought about the fact that you want your children to get a good education, have good friends, and have a broad range of experiences that will enrich their young lives and give them opportunities as adults. Part of accomplishing these goals is building a strong school community of support between parents and staff. That is what the PTO is all about.
For example, by attending a social event, you may meet a lifelong friend. You might receive some needed encouragement when you share your experiences with another parent, or you might encourage another parent who needs a lift. You might gain knowledge about an event at the school or in the community that may enhance the quality of the lives of your family members. You may make a comment to one of our fabulous teachers or staff members that will encourage him or her when they are discouraged. (They have hard jobs!) You may make a comment in a conversation with a staff member that will give them an idea that they implement to affect the entire campus in a positive way. The possibilities of what you can gain, as well as what you can give, are endless! A strong DCC community of parents and teachers cannot help but enhance your child’s education.
Mary Meininger, our Vice President of Hospitality, feels strongly about this whole idea. She says that as we take pride in our school and take ownership in it, we build a community that will make it a better school. Have you ever thought about the fact that your involvement at DCC can actually make it a better school? And how easy is it to get involved in events that are fun! Don’t miss the opportunity to get to know other fantastic DCC parents. Don’t miss the chance to build your own school memories along with your children. Don’t forget that our staff needs our support to do their best. Plug into our DCC community!
The Social Side of the DCC PTO
Last Updated (Monday, 17 August 2009 12:55)
The Social side of PTO is an exciting group! We are always seeking new, exciting people to join in the fun! Social means someone seeking or enjoying the companionship of others, someone friendly, sociable, gregarious, and who likes connecting with others. If this sounds like you -- come join us at the next PTO meeting to sign up for upcoming social events!
Social Events differ from other events hosted by the PTO in that they are intended primarily as a way for DCC parents to connect with one another. In a school as large as DCC, getting in contact with other parents may feel overwhelming.
As DCC has quickly grown, the PTO has also worked hard to help ALL parents feel included. We are a unique school and a unique PTO as we must address the needs of students from PreK through 11. Based on feedback received from DCC parents who attended PTO input sessions, there are fewer Social events this year. These events often require Parent Involvement (PI), so email Mary Meininger at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Socia Events include the Welcome Back to School Coffee (Aug.), Pie with Parents (Feb.), and finally the Campus-Wide Picnic (May.) Be sure to check under the Fundraising Events, Hospitality Events, and Service Activities for additional events and other ways to become involved at DCC. All these events will create lasting memories of joy and thanks to ALL who are a part of our wonderful DCC community!
